The fact that journalists and politicians would rather be on BlueSky and have 200 followers than be on Mastodon and have 20,000 followers speaks to my point about how twitter was never really about speaking to the masses - it was always about speaking to the right people.
Since 'public opinion' has always been a code for what journalists and politicians are discussing I think the willingness to go to a coffee house-sized conversation on BlueSky is not surprising.
