I hate grammar checkers, and I think they've done net harm to the English language by perpetuating a prescriptive understanding of a particularly white dialect of English over a descriptivist understanding of the language in all of its wonderful diversity and variants. Ultimately, prescriptivism is at odds with art and culture.
(This is not a dunk, but taking another post as inspiration for a tangential soapbox. OP's original point is a good one, and I strongly agree.)
