Angela Sin Ying Chan, a 27-year-old violinist from Hong Kong, won the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition in Germany, becoming the first winner from Hong Kong in the competition's history. The competition began on September 16, 2024, with 24 contestants and concluded with the final on September 28, 2024. Chan was named joint winner alongside Canada's Jacques Forestier. They share a prize of €30,000 (US$33,500), with Chan receiving an additional €5,000 for the best performance of the commissioned work. Chan started playing violin at age three under her mother, Monica Chu Ang, and has previously won awards in other international competitions.
