I often recommend Cabal and Imajica to my students.
Nightbreed is so thematically tight & beautiful — and then gets bogged down in obviously non-artistic decisions, like the giant fireball explosions when the scale of the movie is all seduction, personal violence, and mysterious oracles. Not to mention that it was promoted as a slasher movie, which meant that a friend had to promise me that it wasn’t what the trailers claimed to get to me go with him again.
