It's important to understand that ancient Israel was a religious mess. For just about every absurd belief about God, you could probably find an ethnic Hebrew who believed it. Yahweh having a wife, or Yahweh and Ba'al being the same god, etc are things people believed. None of that is true, however. We have the Old Testament that teaches us true doctrine about God (Yahweh). As for all pagan gods being Ba'al, I don't buy that. The closest resemblance we can say about a lot of ancient gods is that they had very similar hierarchies and roles across various nations
