David B. Himself on Nostr: - Student in my reading class: doesn't read. - Me in May: You'd better read or you ...
- Student in my reading class: doesn't read.
- Me in May: You'd better read or you will fail the class.
- Student in May: doesn't read.
- Me in June: You'd better read or you will fail the class.
- Student in June: doesn't read.
- Me in July: You'd better read or you will fail the class.
- Student in July: reads a little, barely.
- Me late July: (insert meme of the guy judging you)
- Student the last week of class: tries to read one semester's worth of reading assignments in one week, doesn't succeed.
- Me early August: fails the the student.
- Student in mid-August: I found out I didn't read enough, what should I do to still pass the class?
But before you blame the student (I mean, he deserves some of the blame, obviously) I think this kind of behavior is not that rare because some of my fellow teachers will never fail students. Always giving them extra credits, special make-up assignments, and whatnot, and a lot of students are under the impression that they can get away with murder.
(and I'm not happy with those fellow teachers)
