if you happen to be tracking develop, i recently removed the dependency on persist (for account settings), and replaced it with the builtin multisession.el.
i'd be glad to know if it works ok for you (just normal usage) before merging into main.
similar re-do for emojify -> emoji.el also ready to go, but let's one at a time.
