I guess it is a good time to write this: my google interview experience
I applied for the generic "Software Engineer, PhD University Systems" role.
They finally set up a phone screen interview yesterday.
I think I did well (solved the problem correctly – except maybe an edge case or two and efficiently – O(n)) but it was obvious the person interviewing had nothing to do with the team hiring, did not care, and wouldn't even give me feedback, or respond as I was walking them through my thought process.
It was purely a coding round, not even a hello, no questions about me, my resume, or my work, or telling me about what they do. No other questions besides a silly string parsing example. It was like talking to AI
This morning I get an email: " At this time, the committee has decided not to move forward with your candidacy for the Software Engineer, PhD University Graduate role and unfortunately we’re unable to provide specific feedback on the decision. We encourage you to keep in touch and consider opportunities with us again in the future."
I don't think I will waste my time in the future, thanks.
