It's the same as racism, so yes. It's the same thing as saying you can't be racist against white people. The reason you say this is because black people didn't enslave an entire race, ship them from their continent, treat them worse than livestock, and currently still get looked down upon either in secret or aloud (the KKK still exists, that in itself shows that racism is still there).
Women aren't treated equally worldwide, that's WHY we fight for these rights. It's never about a one-off time, it's about constant acts of abuse, of power, of stigma, and of expectations. A friend of mine found out she gets paid 33% less than her male coworker, that came in with less experience and after her in a year, and she got a raise because she needed to ask and INSIST on it. Women aren't expected to ask for more, and this expectation stems from inequality implanted in us all.
Anyway, I ranted a bit too much. If you'd like to give more details I'd happily talk about whether this case was gender inequality or just unfairness
