I dont find either of them particularly racist. I don't listen to country music anymore but I grew up un a small town and the sentiment is true. We took care of our own, we were suspicious of foreigners, we didn't allow violence even among our own. Unfortunately after the North American Free Trade Agreement passed, a company from Japan bought the local factory and sold off pieces of it which was the only real source of income for the community other than farming, but there were very few independent farmers left and the remaining land was slowly purchased by a large seed company. Then as the people moved out to find better jobs, meth slowly creeped in like a cancer and destroyed what was left of the community.

I've been living abroad in #Indonesia for the past several months and I see a lot of similarities with my new families culture and the culture of that small town when I was a child. They take care of thier own, they are suspicious of foreigners, they don't allow violence even among their own. While I do not follow their religious beliefs, I do think that this is one of the things that bind them together and allows for a more homogeneous society. Drugs are strictly prohibited, much to my dismay because I would regularly microdose cannabis in the US and it still carries the potential death penalty here. However, you won't find syringes in the streets, or zombie-like people. "Gang" violence is minimal and mostly just boys who were never taught how to be men. The only thing that hold this place down is the constant debasement of the Rupiah. #Bitcoin fixes this, and I'm on a mission to orange pill every person I talk to.
