Kris Gibbon-Walsh (FairShare) suggests that we might adopt the US system of offering (a value capped) tax relief for surplus food donations to charitable organisations that distribute food to the poor...
Given that around 45% of food waste stems from farming (25%), hospitality (9%) & manufacturing (11%) there is considerable waste food that could be saved & used.... it looks like a simple mechanism to generate further supplies for food banks & other distributors.
