I do found that it is much harder to measure work in game dev. sure, you can plan that it will take x weeks to implement the basic flow of your game, but then you realize it just doesn't work or it's not fun. you'll have to fundamentally rethink and rearrange the work and spend x+ weeks. it has to be much more flexible.
software is challenging, but is much easier to prototype beforehand and plan accordingly. you know it will be done by then and it's easier to predict how it will scale.
