When processing the latest batch of ADS-B data from our system, I noticed that we’d apparently received an airplane flying in a part of the Bahamas that we previously hadn’t received any data from.
With a little investigation, it became clear that this was just “bad position data.”
The crucial questions, of course, are:
- WHY was there bad position data?
- WHY weren’t they rejected by `dump1090`?
W/r/t the latter question, it’s just not possible to travel that far in two seconds.
