The 17th century, not the medieval period, was the height of absolutism in Europe. From this derived the wars of religion and the invention of the nation-state; witch burning was a popular activity.
It wasn't that long ago. Harvard was founded in 1636.
This post has nothing to do with #SCOTUS trashing abortion rights, declaring the #POTUS above the law in all cases of "official" acts, or Evangelicals fomenting "culture wars" to mystify our politics, nothing at all.
