I personally don’t see why, except for using the blue sky app itself.

The AT protocol, at it’s core, is doing the same thing as AP - allowing federation of websites.

The code is publicly available so, as long as you don’t implicitly trust their specific instance, you can see what they’re doing.

Their labeling system for moderation isn’t inherently bad and apart from mandatory labels for DMCA/Doxing I don’t necessarily disagree with it. The important thing about a public source and open community is some people will disagree with you or not want to see racist or sexist content, as long as they’re given the option to hide it for themselves (but not remove it from the source) I don’t see an issue with that either.

Now let’s say a scandal happens, they sell some data, wiretap your posts or completely defederate AP - so what? In my view, once you expose their 1.5 million current users to the wider fediverse then there’s going to be some who want to stick around for the hot bants.

TL;DR - System approved sure, but more open-source federation software isn’t a bad thing in my view, at most I wouldn’t trust it when hosted by them themselves.

This post may be a clusterfuck so if anything I wrote was pure gibberish let me know!
