This is maddening.
RFK Jr. reveals that before he stepped in, the Department of Health and Human Services was so fragmented—so dysfunctional—that its own divisions were “selling patient information to each other” while actively working against one another.
In other words, your private health data—paid for by your tax dollars—was being traded inside the agency like poker chips.
But it gets worse.
When Kennedy requested access to CMS data—information that already belongs to HHS—he was told they’d have to buy it back from another branch of the same agency.
CMS data refers to patient and billing records from Medicare and Medicaid—public data funded by taxpayers and used to shape health policy, track outcomes, and detect fraud.
“So I tried to get the CMS patient information, which belongs to the American people and belongs to HHS and the sub agencies said we have to buy it from them and it doesn’t make any sense. There are sub agencies that refuse to give us patient data,” Kennedy said.
The good news? DOGE is actually going to make things better.
“We’re going from 82,000 workers to 62,000. That’s tough on everybody. But I think in the long run we’re going to have much greater morale in a demoralized agency,” Kennedy said.
