It's merely a counter argument to "everything gas". Gas only makes sense in a limited range, a range that it not reached by many, let alone the vast majority of the population, specially in the UK. I don't think this is a matter of education or competence either.
I've grown up where people are generally competent and educated and all our food has always been cooked on electric, whether resistive, or induction, including our traditional dishes.
Other dishes that required gas made use of special tools fit for purpose (pizza, fondue, stir-frys), and despite all our applicances being electric we would use gas where necessary. Having experienced this lifestyle, I cannot imagine that the trade-off (non-renewable, safety, expensive infrastructure) of deploying gas at a national scale is worth the benefit of the few who need gas on a daily basis.
In that sense, I could say that a society catering to the 1% at the cost of everyone else is just as hellish
