I can't grok what the long-term goal of these companies are. Honestly I don't think there is one. My guess that once lack of staffing causes actual issues with maintaining revenue and interferes with the parasitic investment-to-buyback loop they are running, the executives will expect to hire back their fired workers for a smaller salary than they had pre-layoff.
