If you have 11 words, the 12th check word can be any one of 128 words.
If you have 23 words, the 24th check word can be any one of eight words.
If you have a 128 bit key (11 11-bit words and 7 bits incorporated into the check word,) the 12th word is one and only one of eight possible words that begin with the same 7 bits.
If you have a 256 bit key (23 11-bit words and 3 bits incorporated into the check word,) the 24th word is one and only one of 256 possible words that begin with the same 3 bits.
