So, I was arguing with my mom the other day about politics. I know, I know, I never should have gotten into a political argument with a boomer, but I can't help myself. She was big mad about the DOGE cuts when the started and was quoting MSNBC headlines at me and complaining about how "ruthless" the cuts were. Me, an avid DMV disrespector and general bureaucracy hater did some quick googling to prove why all government employees should be fired. I found something interesting:

The Social Security fund will be bankrupt by 2033 and Medicare will be toast by 2036.
Long story short, grandma will receive a 21% cut to her social security check and her medicare benefits will drop by 11%.
It's okay though, the Social Security and Medicare Trustees have known about this since 2001. We'd know about this sooner, but seeing as no one can do their jobs properly and the budget report HAS BEEN SUBMITTED LATE TO CONGRESS 17 OUT OF THE LAST 25 YEARS. Which, I suppose is fine. The deadline is April 1st - set forth by the Social Security Act of 1935. I guess knowing about something for 90 years is irrelevant.
Anyway, my mom put her hands over her ears and went “LALALALALALALA” and pretended this little nugget of fun and government ineptitude doesn’t exist. Typical Boomer.
