This is Tarr Steps, on Exmoor, in Somerset. At 50m, it's the longest clapper bridge we know of. The term clapper bridge comes from the Medieval Latin 'claperius', meaning 'pile of stones'. Its age is unknown - some claim that it dates from the Bronze Age, but others date it from around 1400 CE. Some of the largest slabs weigh as much as 2 tonnes.
Obviously, this must once have been an important trackway but, these days, it's only used by tourists.
