a looooong time ago, like, pre-QAnon, my (conservative) parents brought up "human trafficking" in some conversation as a pressing social concern and i was like "hm, that's probably bullshit" and my wife was shocked at how swiftly i dismissed it, but yup, that was just the start of the fascist "save the children" push that gave us QAnon, Tim Ballard, white ladies calling the police in airports, and then the broader bathroom bill/anti-trans freakout.
