A number of writers (e.g. Alexis Hall) have blogged about publishers not being particularly concerned with how explicit the sex is, as long as it fits the tone of the book.
OTOH, I do think mainstream publishers of non-straight romance tend to opt for less-explicit sex scenes, so it depends on what you're working on.
This is just based on my experience as a reader/writer, not any real industry insight anyway.
