when I was still dual booting I did find it better to have Windows on one drive and Linux on its own drive. Even today I rarely boot into Windows, but I've kept it on its own physical SSD drive. Windows had a nasty habit of not playing nicely sometimes with GRUB and wanting to overwrite the boot sector.
