They did mix with natives a lot (most brazilian families older than 1800 are descendant of the tupiniquim tribe). The portuguese officials and nobles would marry the daugthers of native chiefs and kings in order to consolidate and legitimate the portuguese rule.
Also, most portuguese that emigrated to brazil before 1800 were "cristãos novos", usually jews and muslims of morrocan origin. So they had darker skin than other portuguese.
So a darker skin for a brazilian noble woman in the 1800's is mostly correct.
