Because I’m on vacation, I got thinking about mind flayers in (A)D&D. I had most of the 5e monster books, and I’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3, so the most recent version is familiar to me.
However, I started thinking that I don’t remember the assimilation reproduction from earlier versions. In 5e, mind flayers put a tadpole in somebody else’s brain (human, elf, orc, whatever), and the tadpole grows and takes over.
So I dug out my old books!
