Saw a post yesterday on threads about a brewing cup champ in Asia using $1.50 funnels from IKEA to brew with.
Ironically, I tried this with the same filter about a year ago, interested in the possible no-bypass nature of the brew. Didn't write about it b/c it was a bit of a fail.
I didn't dive into it enough. Failed for me (and thus I didn't think to write about it) b/c
a) filter didn't fit (angles different)
b) restricted flow too much (didn't pursue)
c) a bit worried about plastic/colour leeching (polypropylene)
Seeing this threads post got me thinking; maybe we should be writing about this kind of experimentation more on CoffeeGeek; both the successes and failures. I do this kind of stuff ALL THE TIME: experimenting with new brew methods, unconventional devices, but only really write about the wins.
And here's my question if you made it this far: Would you like to see more of this kind of content on CoffeeGeek? Us quite literally geeking out with new and wacky brewing methods, devices, and tools? Stuff you normally wouldn't consider using to brew coffee?
Let me know in a reply.
