Oh I didn't mean storing the images away from the paper, but storing a high-res version away from the paper, if needed, while the paper has a normal res version. It also has the advantage that you keep the rights to any image uploaded to figshare.
Yes, for the hidden videos it is a problem with Zotero but there's also articles that are just big because of the images they have, and I think we could all keep in mind that storage has a cost (environmental as well as monetary) so in general reducing the size of things we work with is always better..
