If you think something is simple, you haven't gone deep enough. With some things you don't need to, but practical nuclear safety is not one of those things. It takes a degree of masochism to try and go through every possible failure mode, and still acknowledge that it is impossible to theoretically eliminate severe core damage so it must be prepared for.
