OK, ok, I loved the film, it was great.
Wonderful. Made me cry.
But...
Why do minorities have to kill themselves in order to prove themselves?
The queer text of the film (because the subtext is almost non-existent) heavily reinforces the idea of Nimona being trans, etc, etc, everybody can see that.
Why does she have to sacrifice herself to be proven a hero to everyone?
Yes yes, she's actually still alive according to the final 5 seconds, but that sacrifice still had to be made.
Turning the metaphor into reality...why is it seen as a positive, as wholesome, for me to go through trauma and sacrifice to make the cis people in my life accept me?
I *loved* the film, but this sort of messaging HURTS. We can't escape trans trauma porn, even in a kids sci-fantasy.
