PDS 70 is a young star 370 light-years away that's estimated to be only 5.4 million years old. It's surrounded by a protoplanetary disk that contains two newly forming exoplanets and is the perfect example of a young planetary system. JWST is the perfect instrument to observe an object like PDS 70, and recently, water vapor was discovered in the inner disk where the planets form. Astronomers think they've detected a third protoplanet in the PDS 70 system with JWST.
