I feel like something that is always missing from the “ossify bitcoin” conversation is the clear explanation of the difference between code and protocol.
The protocol is the agreed upon language that the nodes speak. With some mathematical rules that they have all committed too.
The code is just there to automate everything. Every line of the bitcoin-core code could be changed in some way and it still adhere to the protocol.
