Santa bought us a Braun IPL groomer. It has an app that connects with Bluetooth for setup, then the device transitions to WiFi, wherein it begins TLSv1.2 encrypted communications with AWS IoT using it's on-board Espressif chip. They claim it requires WiFi access to operate.
Why? Earlier (and lower-cost) models do not have an app or a WiFi requirement. It seems possible that they have a cloud service to help with the “coverage tracking” of the device, but why not just have the app do that?
