Nostr is a continuation of a dynamic I've witnessed a few times. In the 1980s and 90s, companies like Prodigy, Compuserv and even Microsoft were trying create proprietary networks with very little interoperability. Then TCP/IP, which had been around for 20 years, wrecked those proprietary networks as it gained adoption.
Nostr is the TCP/IP of today. It will undermine the walled gardens of Facebook, Twitter, etc but it will take some time. An instant messaging app built on Nostr will be a real threat to FB Messenger, Twitter DMs and the like.
Thanks for listening to my ramble.
