#Instagram and big #tech writ large are societies of control, a concept developed by Gilles Deleuze in the '90s. A society of control, as opposed to a disciplinary society, does not need to use punishment as a primary means of controlling the populace. We are encouraged to use these media, told we are "free" to do so, but in using them, we subject ourselves to their control as they collect data on us to sell to corporations and governments.
