in other news, yesterday i discovered adiantum, a block cipher using chacha20 and poly1305 which is designed to be used for full disk encryption on devices where aes hardware acceleration isn't available.
quite useful in case, y'know, your nas's slightly older cpu doesn't support the aes-ni instructions, given that the luks default block cipher is otherwise aes-xts.
