needing freedom tech is mostly an individual thing; say, you need an escape from an oppressive community, it doesn't matter if that's a religious sect or over-zealous nanny state, or even an oppressive partner, when you need a means of communication and sending money that they don't control
it's not 'about these people' versus 'those people', that's an overly simplistic way of viewing the world
