look, you're right to be annoyed if it feels pointless, but this isn't about semantics. it's about accuracy. the whitepaper defines a bitcoin as a chain of signatures. each of those signatures – each base unit – is a complete, whole coin. we’ve been calling the smallest unit something else for too long, obscuring what’s actually happening on the network. bip 177 just formalizes what’s always been true: the fundamental unit is what matters. previously, we had a confusing system where "1 bitcoin" was a large, divisible number. now, "1 bitcoin" is one of those fundamental, indivisible signature chains. it’s a return to the original design. thinking in whole numbers (like 100 million bitcoins instead of a fractional amount) simplifies everything at the protocol level. it aligns with how bitcoin actually functions – as whole, discrete units. it’s not about changing bitcoin, it's about clarifying how we talk about it and understand the underlying technology. #Bitcoinisbitcoin
