I know a few guys who ended up getting into Bitcoin cash at the time of the fork wars. This is only anecdotal, but it seems that the folks who got into bcash were interested in getting rich off it, while the small blockers were also concerned with actually fixing the money (and fixing the world) in addition to making money ofc. Roger can hem and haw all he wants about how he is the one trying to save Bitcoin but imo for him it was always about controlling the protocol... People like him resist situations when they are not in control. So the block size wars were, in this humble plebs opinion, an ethical filter separating the community between the low time preference plebs who who actually cared about turning Bitcoin into the world reserve currency and the high time preference crowd who wanted to get rich quick.
It's not a perfect filter mind you, there were plenty of good people who got fooled into bcash and plenty of people who don't really care about the ethical implications of the protocol who held Bitcoin, but a general filter.
So for me the lesson of the story is that when you keep your morals Bitcoin rewards you. Bitcoin is a mirror and you get out of it what you put into it. Truly remarkable discovery.đ
