I want to make a personal comparison analogy to dance and Nashville 2024:

Brazilian Zouk and Forró are both couple dances. Both start with the left foot and have a pause in the rhythm. They share a leader-follower role and the rhythm pattern 1,2,3,pause,5,6,7,pause.

Differences:
- In Forró, the 3 and 7 go together with the pause. In Zouk, the 5 and 1 go together with the pause.
- Forró is played with triangle, drum, and accordion, while Zouk is DJ-driven with all kinds of fitting music.
- Forró communities are mostly Brazilian or people who want to speak Portuguese. Zouk is an internationally mixed environment.
- Forró starts with the follower stepping back; Zouk starts with the follower stepping forward.
- In Forró, you dance at most 5 songs together; in Zouk, some people dance together for hours.
- Forró can be chaotic, sometimes rough with push-pull movements; Zouk is about flow and connection.
- Forró is easy to learn, attracting many beginners who stick to one dance; Zouk is harder to master, often drawing people who know other dances.

While Forró and Zouk have commonalities, dancing together with each style can be fun and interesting initially. However, to get into the flow of the dance, you need to stick to familiarities, come together, and create something stronger and more beautiful. It's important to have these fundamentals working to create magic.

At Nashville 2024, I felt like dancing Zouk, but many people danced Forró. While I know Forró, I wanted to dance Zouk, and there were only a few Zouk dancers. The dances with these few were amazing! The Forró people were happily dancing together though.

Every dance starts with not knowing who you're dancing with until you give different signals and test each other out.

That can result I great dances, and sometimes in disappointments, when the dance partner is not capable of adjusting to create synergy.

Overall, I still thank you, Nashville. I'm sure it's a places that's needed for people who start out with Forró, and eventually come to Zouk.

Oh, btw, and if you ever need a fantastic Zouk teacher in Thailand, reach out to . She accepts Lightning as well!
