I have heard "CIS" being called an insult as well. Mostly by overly sensitive CIS men looking for a reason to be offended. It is actually why I added it to my nickname, to mock the fragile feelings of those CIS men...
The entire subject is so subjective, and changes so rapidly it is hard to keep up.
