saw this in engineering school, and it wasn't just the subcontinentals. All of the fraternities etc as well as the international student groups had files on almost every class, which were often taught from file. Research professors hate teaching and are lazy about it.
Anyway, I wasn't in any of those organizations and still graduated with a decent GPA, but then I found out you also needed to be in those organizations to land a decent career...
