in my suburban area of England the cars either seem to be superminis *or* SUVs, with the saloon becoming much less popular - the big problem being the SUV increasingly becoming the default "family car" - I know of very few single people who drive one (or wish to do so) but they are definitely aspirational vehicles for young parents..
