My theory is that Trump/GOP attracts a handful of voters in rural, working class communities driven by socio-cultural issues, but lots more people, mostly men, in outer suburbs making well above median income who identify as “working class” culturally. Meanwhile Biden/Democrats mop up the rest: urban working class, some rural working class communities, lots of middle class suburbanites and an overwhelming number of urban elites.
