When you copy something, the system can copy it not in a single format, but many. For example something can be copied as html, rich text, and then plain text. The receiving program therefore has choices. There's different image formats, too. If the sending program doesn't provide what a recipient program can handle, it's logical you'll get a text marker. Try pasting to preview first, then copying from there. Since that program seems universal, it may fix your problem. This copy subject feature (new to me, too) might be rendering to an image format your recipient program can handle.
