I think abandoning calling conservatives and right-wingers "weird" was a baffling move because a lot of them were unironically cracking from such a tepid insult. It's wild to reflect on how many took deep DEEP offense to it, were barfing out their thinly veiled insecurities for the world to see, and how even surface level introspection was causing some of them to have existential terror.
It was honestly a pretty damn solid choice of insult for the intended target, too. As more and more people are finding out, most right-wingers don't give a shit if their ideas and beliefs are cruel, or unfair, or destructive, or tyrannical.
What they care about is if they're *normal.*
