it might give new impulses some of the best stories I expirienced where when a DND round went wrong (for the characters) do to us failing saving checks. It's hart to fight a dragon if the rules tell you that the characters suffer from incredible fear and aren't allowed to move towards the beast as long it's in line of sight... Resulting in one character fighting with closed eyes & another "moonwalking" into reach for its distance weapon. But I guess every game with an narrative element can have such influence.

A Magic The Gatheringgame would have ended with a weak dragon player & his incredible Army of flying monster whipping the floor with the last 2 untouched players in the game, if they didn't came up with a solution. One had a sort of Zombietree & the other a voodoo doll connected to the dragon "lord", both not enough to beat the dragon army, in the end they "threw the voodoo doll against the tree" beating the dragon player & his army.
