Speaking of paternity leave: I jumped off Twitter as soon as my newborn arrived (we’re over the moon, btw!), and have only used the Competitor Twitters since.
For news, Mastodon requires more work than the others — e.g., hunting down the few official accounts on here, or accounts reposting news RSS feeds, federated Flipboard posts, etc…
…but the result is, surprisingly, way more informative about brass-tacks news than Threads or Bluesky?
