yep, US tax system is based on citizenship, not residency
you could reside in Asia, and still have to file US taxes
the only way to escape this, is to rescind your American citizenship
however if you do this, they might deny you at the border if you ever try to come back (I've heard of this happening to people who rescinded their citizenship)
