COVID was frustrating for everyone for innumerable reasons. As part of the hard-of-hearing community, it affected me in a unique way: when people wear masks, I can't read their lips.
Hearing aids improve your hearing, but they don't restore it. I rely on reading lips and body language, which is why I prefer in-person conversations -- another thing that was limited during COVID.
I saw some doctors wearing clear, plastic masks so their patients could understand them, which I greatly appreciated. I bought some to wear, thinking I would inspire a new movement; but they just fogged up.
I must confess that I tend to avoid people who are still wearing masks -- because I probably won't understand what they're saying.
